The Role

We are hiring for an experienced Oracle AWS DBA Consultant to join our talented delivery team based out of the UK. You will be a member of our global consulting team, playing a senior role in enterprise database architecture project design, including Oracle database builds, upgrades, migrations and performance tuning on on-prem as well as Cloud platforms, particularly AWS

 

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver within agreed timelines and budgets, managing and completing projects and support activities within customer expectations SLAs, while proactively escalating any issues that cannot be resolved within the established timeframes
  • Contribute towards 3rd level support and resolving Oracle and AWS related incidents and problems
  • Use native monitoring and troubleshooting tools for database analysis
  • Implement processes for Disaster Recovery, database backups, restores and recovery models
  • Design and implement database security controls
  • Work with customers to migrate their database environments to AWS. This may include, but is not limited to Re-Host database platform on AWS, Upgrade/Optimize for AWS, Re-Factor to open-source database platform on AWS
  • Oracle Database 19c,12c, RAC, Data Guard, cross platform migrations and deploy/manage databases in on-prem and on-prem to AWS RDS/EC2 using AWS Database Migration Service (DMS, SCT)
  • Assess the current database environment and determine the most efficient migration strategy to AWS by using cloud/DB native migration tools or other migration tools like GoldenGate, Striim, SharePlex etc or open-source tools.
  • Design and conduct research on differing approaches to data storage in AWS including S3/Glacier storage and backup management
  • Managing users, roles, and privileges through IAM
  • Design and implement automation solutions for routine tasks, system reporting, alerts, and notifications using standard tools and custom scripts
  • Systems monitoring with vendor provided and open-source monitoring platforms

 

About You:

  • 10 or more years of Core Oracle DBA experience with at least 4 years of experience in managing databases on AWS (EC2 or RDS) platform
  • Experience in delivering AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP) Services
  • Ability to design and choose the appropriate AWS infrastructure to host Oracle database based on your workload requirements, performance needs, and cost considerations
  • Excellent track record in choosing and determining the appropriate method and tools like AWS Database Migration Service (DMS), AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT), and AWS Snowball to migrate Oracle and other databases such as Postgres to AWS based on the size of the database, the downtime tolerance of your application, and the migration complexity
  • Ability to choose the appropriate storage options for the databases based on your workload requirements and performance needs.
  • Experience in setting up monitor tools and reviewing the performance of Oracle database on AWS using appropriate monitoring tools and methods, such as Oracle Enterprise Manager, AWS CloudWatch, and AWS X-Ray.
  • Use performance tuning techniques, such as database tuning, query optimization, and index tuning, to optimize the performance of your Oracle database on AWS.
  • Proficient in one or more scripting languages such as Shell, Python, Perl
  • Previous consulting experience is essential
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect and/or AWS Certified Database – Specialty

 

Great to have skills:

  • Experience with using native AWS Database technologies such as DynamoDB and Aurora
  • Experience with design and implementation of other databases such as Postgres, SQL Server, MySQL.
  • Exposure to automation tooling such as Ansible
  • Optional awareness of application middleware technologies such as Tomcat, JBoss, Oracle Weblogic.
